LG to present world’s largest OLED TV at CES

Consumer electronics company LG Electronics will show off the world’s largest OLED TV at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January.
The 55" OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TV has an amazingly thin 4mm profile, a barely-there bezel and weighs just 7.5kg.

It also sports the company’s 4-Color Pixels and Color Refiner features which help to produce natural and accurate colors (in red, green blue and white). LG comments that these features provide a superior viewing experience compared to the RGB (red, green and blue) setup used by other manufacturers.

"Working closely with LG Display, we have a product which not only delivers on all the advantages of OLED over LCD but at a significantly lower cost than what could be achieved using existing OLED manufacturing technologies," said Havis Kwon, president and CEO of LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. "OLED is clearly the future of home TV entertainment and LG is very focused on making this exciting technology as easy as possible for consumers to embrace."

The 55" OLED TV -- which is rumored to be landing in stores in Q4, 2012 -- will be shown at CES alongside LG’s massive Ultra Definition (aka "4K") 3840 x 2160 pixels 84-inch 3D TV. The huge TV will also come equipped with voice recognition.

Rival TV maker Samsung has released a video teaser that hints at its CES TV lineup. The video implies that Samsung will be showcasing TVs with bigger displays, seamless sharing from mobile devices, and Smart TV technology. More information about pricing and release dates will be announced during CES which runs January 10-13.
